Shelbyville, Ky. (Oct. 26, 2011) – Roll Forming Corporation, Inc. is the oldest manufacturer in Shelby County. RFC provides metal parts to virtually every world-wide market from toy trains to office partitions, planes, and tractors and today received an award for having taken extraordinary measures to ensure the health and safety of its employees.

Roll Forming Corporation (RFC) has been in existence since 1947 (in Shelbyville, Kentucky, since 1949). Today, RFC has six plants in three states (Indiana & Pennsylvania) and provides jobs for more than 350 people. RFC employs state of the art technology to form metal structural components from carbon steel and exotic metals utilizing precision roll forming mills, high speed presses, laser cutters and welders, various form of sophisticated benders, CNN mills, and many other custom designed machines. Over the past several years, RFC has developed a strong culture of personal accountability that manifests itself in every aspect of the business to include safety, quality, production efficiencies, equipment and tool design, and even personal relationships. RFC is a center-piece in the Shelbyville Community with Team Members participating in the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, Shelby County Associated Industries, the Dorman Center, local fire departments and many other civic oriented organizations. RFC is the leader for the US domestic roll forming industry and is a subsidiary of Voestalpine; an Austrian based metal products company ($14b annual sales).

RFC has been certified as one of 16 active SHARP's company's in Kentucky. The U.S. Department of Labor designed SHARP to encourage and recognize excellence in occupational safety and health among smaller employers - those with 500 or fewer workers - in "high hazard" industries.

Although companies must meet federal standards for the program, the Kentucky Labor Cabinet presents the award because Kentucky has had its own federally approved Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) program for over 20 years. Roll Forming Corporation is proud to be partnering with KYOSH for the benefit of its employees safety and their wellbeing.

SHARP companies first undergo a thorough assessment by Kentucky OSH consultants. Among the requirements, a company must have injury and illness rates below national averages for its industry. It must also have a comprehensive safety and health program that involves all employees in finding and correcting existing or potential hazards before they result in an injury.

The injury and illness rate (Total Recordable Injury Rate TRIR) at Roll Forming Corporation is 2.6%. That is well below the national average, for their industry, which currently stands at 6.6 (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, for 2009, most recent year statistics are available for). This number represents the incidence rate per 100 full-time workers.

SHARP certification is good for two years and then can be renewed. A company is exempted from scheduled OSH compliance inspections during the certification period.
